Creating a new, patient-focused modern facility
DATE: JANUARY 2023 | LOCATION: LEEDS | PROJECT VALUE: £1.5m | PROJECT AREA: PROJECT AND PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT | PROJECT STATUS: COMPLETED
Seacroft Clinic in Leeds was starting to show its age. The tired 1960s building was struggling to cope with an increasing patient intake, and Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust (LCH) wanted to revamp it into a new, patient-focused modern facility. However, budget constraints mean that works need to retain the original building envelope, while enhancing the external look, maximising the clinical space, providing hot desking for flexible working and improving accessibility.
The Solution
This exciting project to turn an outdated facility into a modern, vibrant health centre was something we were keen to get involved in. As the Trust’s embedded Estates team, Community Ventures brought its expertise in supply chain management to manage the scheme. They oversaw the full project, from the initial preparatory works, through to the completion and opening of the revamped clinic.
Work included exploratory structural investigations to facilitate the design, as well as an asbestos strip out before the main contract started.
The Result
The end-result was a vibrant, patient-focused clinic which was fit for purpose for both patients and staff. After temporarily closing for the renovations, the new spacious and light Seacroft Clinic reopened, with patient experience as the priority. A new accessible entrance was created, there was a brighter colour scheme, comfortable waiting room, and dementia-friendly signage was installed throughout the building. There were also 12 new clinical rooms and 25 hot desks, allowing the clinic to treat more patients and accommodate more staff, especially clinical staff who work in the community.
Sustainability was also a major driver of the project, with the building made more energy efficient and solar panels installed.
The renovations have really transformed the clinic which now offers an improved patient experience and will also benefit our staff that work there.
